about
"'Don’t Let Me Try' was conceived as a reaction to a personal loss and a year and a half of solitude under the 2020 quarantine. It's a time capsule of several isolating moments.
Too often, especially in our genre, suicidal ideation is regarded as a trope… But the anguish felt in those private moments is anything but a fashion statement or commonplace nothing. It’s threatening, imposing and devastatingly lonely.
We wanted this song to speak to that without glorifying an end, or holding the hand of the listener. It is a trope mired in heavy familiarity that we wanted to capture without being overly direct… Inviting the listener to draw their own conclusions and inspire conversation."
lyrics
"Don’t Let Me Try"
_
when you woke up today
did you feel the sky, color grey
did you touch your lips to god
to feel
to feed
to lay your crown
down by her knees
there’s broken glass
in this mirrors mask
unlucky mistakes litter my past
but I’m a sucker for the light
if I can sit in the shade
roll the dice and you and I are…
broken with scars that we’ve chosen
and when they speak
the words don’t heal
but the ‘cut’ is real
baby, I know what you’re thinking
but tonight I’m not myself
don’t let me try
just a kiss of desire
can take away from life
In this nothing to get me higher
don’t preach to me of gods
I’m in a fire against the odds
I’ve got nothing left to fear
when the fruit is left to rot … we are.
broken with scars that we’ve chosen
and when they speak
The words don’t heal
but the ‘cut’ is real
baby, I know what you’re thinking
but tonight I’m not myself
don’t let me try
don’t let me try.
watch the snowfall with me
Is it empty? (the words don’t heal, but the cut is real)
watch the snowfall with me Is it empty? (I’m not myself, don’t let me try) come dance in the shadows… in the shadows I’m not myself.
Don’t let me try.
Don’t let me try.
